It’s a pretty lofty statement but design has come into its own in recent years. Embraced by everyone whether they are aware of it or not, great design makes the world easier to understand. It affects us all in more ways than we imagine. And we rarely give it much thought.

So here are my thoughts on how design makes the world a better place.

Signs and signals that help us navigate our world
Instructions that help us easily learn
 Color that attracts our attention
Advertising that makes us aware of products that can help us
Promotions that help introduce us to valuable services and offers
Visual cues that help us discern vital information
Graphics that distill complex information, so it can be more easily understood
Alignments and patterns that aid readability and comprehension
Visuals that cross language and cultural barriers
Graphics that drive awareness for a project or event
Visual brands that are elevated in importance just by looking good
Packaging that helps us differentiate between product attributes
User experiences that make the internet a welcoming place
 Maps that facilitate easier travel
Graphics that make us laugh and add fun to our world
Logo designs that are used to facilitate brand equity and improve sales
Books that become more interesting by adding meaningful images
Publications that engage readers by using powerful layouts
User interfaces that help us easily navigate websites, apps and software
 Fonts that aid readability
Visuals that lend a distinctive signature look
Visuals that conceptualize what a company represents
Arrows used as effective visual indicators
Geometric objects, i.e. lines, circles, squares, that are used as visual shorthand

Yes! Turning the complex into the simple makes an impact on our lives.

This can be said of any design (product, interior, fashion) that adds functionality and beauty to our lives.
Great design makes us feel good, guides us and inspires us.
